  • Cotton Piping Cord 10/32″
    • Small 5m
    • Medium 8m
    • Large 12m
  • Needle 90/14 or 120/19

  • 1 bottle of Rit Dye – Coral (or the color of your choice!)

Cutting Instructions

From Leather Cut:
(1) 2″ x 2″ square per bowl

Bowl Assembly

Trim the start of your rope to give a clean end.

Fold the end over tightly.

Continue to coil the rope around your fold for a few turns. Pin in place, making sure it is lying flat.

Set your machine to a zig-zag stich, about 4 – 5 wide. Stitch length 4. Make sure you are using a heavy 90/14 or 120/19 needle.

Set the center of your coil in the machine and secure with zig-zag stitches.

Continue around the fold, coiling the ropes as you go.

Continue until you have a flat base of:
Small: 4 1/2″
Medium: 6 1/2″
Large: 8 1/2″

Once the base is the correct width, tilt it towards the top of your machine and continue sewing and coiling the rope. It’s important that you keep the base lifted as you sew to create the shape of the bowl.

When you have reached the desired height for your bowl, cut the rope leaving a 6″ tail. Fold the tail back so the end lines up with your last stitches. Stitch to secure.

Take the 2″ leather square and position over the tail end. Stitch in place.

OPTIONAL: We used Rit Dye Coral to ombre dye our bowls. Step-by-step instructions can be found here: https://www.ritdye.com/techniques/ombre
