Quilt Along: Block 8

Welcome to Block 8 of our Quilt Along!! There are printable instructions and a video tutorial! Block 8 is a hexie block.

Instructions

Using the pattern provided cut 2 of each color from 4 colors and 3 of each color from 2 colors. You will have 14 hexagons total.

2. Transfer the dots from the pattern onto your hexagons, this will make it easier to match up corners when we go to sew.

3. Place your first 4 hexagons down in the order you want them to be finished. This will be your top row. We will label these F-E-D-C

4. Place F and E right sides together and stitch starting at the top dot you marked and ending at the bottom dot you marked.

5. Press your seam to the left.

6. Place E and D right sides together and stitch starting at the top dot you marked and ending at the bottom dot you marked. Press to the left

7. Place D and C right sides together and stitch starting at the top dot you marked and ending at the bottom dot you marked. Press to the left. That completes row 1

8. Repeat the same steps with Row 2 using three hexagons. Sew B to A and A to F. Press seams to the right.

9. Repeat the same steps with Row 3 using four hexagons. Sew E to D and D to C and C to B. Press seams to the left.

10. Repeat the same steps with Row 4 using three hexagons. Sew A to F and F to E. Press seams to the right.

11. Your completed rows should look something like this.

12. Take your top row and place the first hexagon right sides together with the second row’s first hexagon. Stitch on the line as shown, stopping and ending at the dots you drew.

13. Press the seam down.

14. Take your top row and place the second hexagon right sides together with the second row’s first hexagon. Stitch on the line as shown, stopping and ending at the dots you drew.

15. Press the seam down. You will now have the first hexagon of the second row attached to the first and second hexagons of the top row. We are going to continue you this for the remainder of the hexagons.

16. Take your top row and place the second hexagon right sides together with the second row’s second hexagon. Stitch on the line as shown, stopping and ending at the dots you drew.

17. Repeat with the remaining hexagons until your first row is attached to your second row. Attach your second row to your third row and third row to your fourth row.
