DIY of the Month: Coffee Sleeve and Hand Warmers
Keep your hands toasty warm this season and your coffee cup oh so cute! Create these coffee sleeves and hand warmers for yourself or make for the perfect gift or stocking stuffer!
Materials
Fabric A
Words and Tossed Snowmen- 0.2m
Fabric B
Red Plaid Bias – 0.2m
Fabric C
Mitten Allover – 0.2m
Fabric D
Snowflake Red – 0.2m
Fabric E
Tossed Snowmen – 0.2m
- Wrap n Zap batting – 0.2m
- Dress it up buttons
- 1/8″ elastic
- Rice
Cutting Instructions
Please note: All strips are cut across the width of fabric (WOF) from selvedge to selvedge unless otherwise noted.
From Fabric A, B and Batting cut:
(2) Coffee Cup Sleeve Pattern Piece
From Fabric C cut:
(2) Mitten Hand Warmer Pattern Piece
From Fabric D cut:
(2) Heart Hand Warmer Pattern Piece
From Fabric E cut:
(2) Snowman Hand Warmer Pattern Piece
Coffee Sleeve Assembly
Using the pattern provided cut out your pieces.
Trim 1/4″ all the way around your batting
Cut your elastic to a 2″ piece and fold in half to create a loop
Place (2) A right sides together, insert the elastic loop between both layers. Pin in place. Place (1) batting on top.
Stich 1/4″ around, leaving a 2″ gap to turn right side out.
Turn right side out.
Topstitch around edge closing the gap. Quilt as desired.
Stitch a button to the opposite side of the elastic loop.
Repeat with Fabric B!
Hand Warmer Assembly
Using the pattern provided cut out two pieces from one shape for each hand warmer.
Place your two pieces wrong sides together and stitch 1/4″ around, leaving a 2″ gap to fill.
Using a funnel or paper, fill with rice. Stitch the opening closed.
Repeat with remaining fabric to make more hand warmers!
