Earth Day – Produce Bags

We love the steps that people are taking to become more environmentally friendly! This week we are celebrating Earth Day with easy DIY’s you can make to reduce, reuse and upcycle! These produce bags are a must for everyone! Using our new fruit and vegetable collections you can itemize your produce based on the bags! Stay organized and environmentally friendly.

Materials

  • Main Fabric: 0.3m (1m to make 1 of each size)
  • Netting: Small (0.2m) Medium & Large (0.3m) (1m to make 1 of each size) we used home decor lace 300cm wide.
  • Ribbon: Small & Medium (0.8m) Large (0.9m)

Instructions

  1. Cut out your fabrics as per the instructions below for each size.

Small:
Main Fabric:
A. Bag Top: 20 1/2″ x 4″
B. Bag Bottom: 20 1/2″ x 4″
C. 4 tabs using provided pattern piece
Netting:
-20 1/2″ x 7 1/2″

Medium:
Main Fabric:
A. Bag Top: 24 12″ x 4″
B. Bag Bottom: 24 1/2″ x 5″
C. 4 tabs using provided pattern piece
Netting:
-24 1/2″ x 9 1/2″

Large:
Main Fabric:
A. Bag Top: 28 1/2″ x 4″
B. Bag Bottom: 28 1/2″ x 6″
C. 4 tabs using provided pattern piece
Netting:
-28 1/2″ x 11 1/2″

2. Place the bag bottom and netting right sides together and stitch with 1/4″ seam allowance. Topstitch the bag bottom down to stop the seam from rolling up and being visible through the netting.

3. Fold the 4″ sides in 1/4″ on the bag top and stitch down.

4. Fold each  20 1/2″ side up 1/2″ and press

5. Fold piece in half lengthwise and press.

6. Place the right side of the bag top to the netting leaving 1/4″ on each side. Stitch together with 1/4″ seam allowance.

7. Fold the bag in half right sides together and stitch the side seam from the bottom up until you reach the bag top.

8. Fold the bag top over the netting on the wrong side and edge stitch around to finish.

9. Turn right side out and press.

10. Thread the ribbon through the channel in the bag top.

11. Using the pattern provided cut 4 tabs. Place two tabs right sides together and stitch around the edges leaving the bottom open.

12. Clip corners and turn right side out. Insert 1 edge of the ribbon into the tab opening, topstitch the tab closed securing the ribbon. Repeat on the other side.
